Drake Receives Honor of Philias

by Mitch Goldich, Lehigh '09

The brothers of Drake received this Conclave’s Honor of Philias, given every two years for incredible acts of kindness and brotherly love.

The Greek word Philias translates to SigEp’s third cardinal principle, Brotherly Love, and the chapter has earned this recognition for its support of Shiv Morjaria, Drake ’14, throughout his battle with cancer.

Col. Robert Lanham: The Enemy is Mediocrity

by Jonathan Greenstein, Illinois State ‘11

Col. Robert Lanham, Indiana ’77, spoke yesterday at Conclave about U.S. Marine Corps leadership traits and principles. While Lanham’s leadership structure was based on the “Marine Corps way,” the material was easily transferrable to fraternity leadership.

Brotherhood Luncheon Stirs Emotions

The Brotherhood Luncheon was very emotional, starting with the necrology.  Brothers approached microphones and read the names of brothers who have passed away over the last two years.

After the awarding of the Honor of Philias, several new Residential Learning Communities were given their accreditation plaques.  Then, Chris Dillion, Illinois ‘03 (right), announced a new initiative, in which his Illinois Alpha Chapter will offer funding and mentorship to support chapters striving to become RLCs.  Their first partnership is with the Alabama SEC.

An Entrepreneur in Social Media – Rick Marini

by Jonathan Greenstein, Illinois State ‘11

Rick Marini, New Hampshire ’94, walked an audience through the long hours and hard work it took him to become a pioneer in the social media industry. Marini detailed his many successes, stressing to the crowd that nothing came easy— as evidenced by the 10 months he worked for free and lived off Ramen noodles.
