42nd Conclave • August 14-18, 1991 • Washington, DC
During the 1991 Conclave in Washington, D.C., Curt Carlson himself announced the “campaign for the heart of Sigma Phi Epsilon” fund drive. “This is the most important project our fraternity has ever undertaken,” he said. In addition to this successful fundraising campaign, the Balanced Man Project was adopted at this Conclave and implemented in the fall of 1992, replacing the pledging model of member development with a four-year development program. Based on the ancient Greek ideal of a healthy balance in mind and body, it returned to Sigma Phi Epsilon’s roots for inspiration.
