“Who or what is the power structure of our fraternity? Very simply... it is the undergraduates,” the Journal remarked after the 1975 Conclave. This Conclave ushered in a new era of communication between headquarters, chapter houses, alumni and undergraduates. Lines were more open now than ever. “I think it had to do with our staff hiring and staff reps going out wearing tie-dyed clothes instead of suits and ties. It had to do with putting a couple of undergraduates on the national board and the fact that we were lucky enough that our conventions happened in odd-numbered years, when the world seemed more peaceful,” said future Grand President Bruce Hasenkamp.
