Great moments from Conclaves past

Chuck White described the thirty-second Conclave, held in Atlanta in 1971, as the “tail-end of our critical period. We were programming a different way, trying to meet the needs and demands of the day, and we did a lot of different things.” Once again SigEp was leading the fraternity world in a new and different direction. Groups were set up to discuss unstructured topics rather than discussion through a rigid program. “We tried to let people get involved as they wished,” said White. This Conclave also witnessed the “last hurrah” of founding member Dr. Thomas Vaden McCaul, as he stood on a chair and waved a handkerchief tied to the end of his cane. Hundreds of delegates cheered.
