26th Conclave • September 3-5, 1959 • Washington, D.C.
The 1959 Conclave passed ground breaking legislation giving chapters of Sigma Phi Epsilon “the privilege of selecting members without restriction,” thereby eliminating all selectivity clauses from their constitution and opening the doors of SigEp to members without regard to race, creed, or religious affiliation.
The action was approved by a roll call vote of 134 to 37 after recommendation by the fraternity’s national board of directors.
