20th Conclave • September 2-4, 1947 • Kansas City, MO
Great moments from Conclaves past

The twentieth Conclave, referred to as the “Heart of America Conclave,” took place September 2 - 4, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri. There were several things to celebrate at this Conclave. Many SigEp vets from the second World War were returning to school with the G.I. Bill. “He was a war hero, a great guy, and he hit the books. Every night after dinner he’d do his two hours or so of homework, and I’d better, as a kid, do my homework, too. You learned from a guy like that how to live a disciplined life but still have a good time,” said William A. Schreyer about his Air Force Captain roommate.

In 1947, the future looked bright for all five-hundred guests at SigEp’s twentieth Conclave. In legislation, the Conclave vigorously reaffirmed the expansion policy launched in 1940 and authorized the sponsorship of underprivileged boys’ camps. An extraordinary community service project for its time, SigEp continues this sponsorship today.
