14th Conclave • August 22-24, 1928 • Seattle, WA
On August 22, 1928, the “SigEp Train” rolled into Seattle’s Union Station to a reception of local SigEps and their “sweethearts.” Although most of the delegates took advantage of the group rates on the cross-country “SigEp Train” others such as future grand president Young Fly, “Buicked” all the way to the west coast.
The “Charmed Land Conclave” was the first to be held in the far west. At this Conclave authorization was given to print and edit copies of the constitution and bylaws, as well as impose fines on chapters delinquent in submitting reports to national headquarters. Amid all of the legislation SigEps had fun too, with informal dancing on the Inglewood Country Club lawn, trips to snow-covered Mount Rainier and a four hour cruise up Puget Sound to Victoria B.C. The previous year, Sigma Phi Epsilon became one of the first fraternities to own a national headquarters when it dedicated it’s new building in Richmond.
