13th Conclave • August 25-28, 1926 • Richmond, VA
From all accounts, the thirteenth or “Silver” Conclave, held at Richmond’s Jefferson Hotel August 25-28, 1926, was the stellar event of the decade. “Boy, you should have heard it flow,” wrote one ecstatic member about the rhetoric. “You got all goose-fleshy and thrills tickled your spinal column.”

• A fraternity census published in the Journal that year shows Sigma Phi Epsilon ranking thirteenth in chapters among seventy-four fraternities.
• Grand Secretary William Lazell Phillips is now know affectionately as “Uncle Billy”
• A contract is signed which guaranteed Phillips employment for the next sixteen years with a pension to follow.
• Other Conclave legislation authorized Sigma Phi Epsilon to purchase a new national headquarters.
• First-rate entertainment aboard a midnight cruise, and a “miniature Mardi Gras” and dance on the rooftop of the Richmond Hotel finished off the night.
