2nd Conclave • April 24-25, 1905 • Pittsburgh, PA
The second Conclave was co-hosted by Pennsylvania chapters at Washington and Jefferson College, and at Western University of Pennsylvania (now the University of Pittsburgh). It was highlighted by the election of grand council officers—in particular, James E. Oliver as SigEp’s first grand president.
Committees were formed to consider revising the constitution and formulating a ritual, as well as to recommend a design for pledge pins. Fraternity affairs were officially placed in the hands of the grand council. Considerable discussion focused on the need for alumni organizations, uniformity in chapter work, and a central office for the fraternity. A proposed clause to the constitution that restricted membership to white men of Christian birth was rejected.
